Kampala – The Uganda Prisons Service has announced a nationwide enhancement of safety and security measures across all prison units, in response to the ongoing unauthorized demonstrations. The move aims to prevent potential breaches and ensure the well-being of prisoners and staff.

Regional Prisons Commanders, District Prisons Commanders, and Officers in Charge have been instructed to suspend non-urgent movements and activities, increase vigilance and surveillance, and closely monitor prisoner visitations.

According to Frank Baine, Service Spokesperson for the Uganda Prisons Service, “The safety and security of our prisoners is our top priority. We are working closely with security agencies and stakeholders to ensure a unified response to any potential threats.”

Baine noted that activities such as court transportation and labor assignments have been deprioritized, with the focus now on maintaining order and security within the prison system. The movement of government vehicles has also been restricted to minimize risks.
