Mityana Mayor’s Home Attacked by Armed Robbers

Mityana- Police are investigating an aggravated robbery incident that occurred at the residence of Mityana Municipal Council Mayor, Faustino Mukambwe Lukonge, on Tuesday morning.

According to Racheal Kawala, Wamala region police spokesperson, unknown individuals armed with pangas and wearing cloth face masks attacked the mayor’s residence at approximately 02:30 am, demanding money and causing damage to property.

“The mayor, fearing for his life, handed over 900,000/= and his phone to the assailants through the window,” Kawala stated. “The suspects subsequently fled the scene, leaving behind broken window glass.”

Kawala noted that a task team led by the District Police Commander of Mityana responded to the scene, and a case of aggravated robbery has been opened.

Police utilized a canine dog to track the suspects but lost their trail, suggesting they may have utilized motorcycles to escape. Fortunately, the mayor did not sustain any injuries during the incident.

Police indicate that investigations into the matter are currently underway.
