Kampala – The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is set to conduct a Post Enumeration Survey (PES) between August and September this year across the country.

The survey aims to validate the results of the recent national population and housing census by comparing the results with the census results to establish variations that might have occurred during the census enumeration.

“In line with international best practices of conducting national housing and population census, the bureau will conduct PES in all the 135 districts and also the 11 cities across the country,” said Didacus Okoth, UBOS Senior Public Relations Officer, while addressing the media in Kampala on Monday.

Okoth explained that the PES will be undertaken on a sample basis and will replicate the main census activity.

The survey will target all persons who spent the previous night in a household, including those who were away from home but returned late at night. Additionally, persons who spent the previous night outside the household but came back late, such as those who went to bars, functions, or visited the sick in the hospital, as well as security personnel who spent the previous night on duty, will also be included.

However, some groups will be excluded from the survey, including students in boarding schools and halls of residence, religious institutions, refugee camps, disabled persons’ homes, hotels, Armed Forces training schools, and inpatients at medical institutions.

Okoth stated that UBOS has already trained a team of independent persons to conduct the survey at the national level and is currently training others to collect data at the sub-county level. He appealed to households in sampled villages to cooperate with field interviewers.

“The PES is a separate activity from the census and should not be confused with it,” Okoth emphasized.

UBOS is working with local leaders and the media to mobilize communities and ensure a smooth exercise. For more information, the public can contact UBOS on 0786480500 or 0773085656.
