Kampala- The Ministry of Internal Affairs has arrested three foreign nationals, for attempting to obtain Ugandan passports fraudulently.

According to Simon Mundeyi, Ministry spokesperson, the trio includes a Nigerian national, Rahman Adam Bolakare alias Makenke Rahman Adam, and two Cameronians, Saha Cruz Nimaneke, alias Kato Cruz, and Saha Uri Korunyuwi alias Waswa Alex. The Cameronians falsely presented themselves as twins, claiming to be born to the same parents, in an attempt to strengthen their fraudulent applications.

Bolakare used a fake national ID to apply for a passport, claiming to be a Ugandan citizen with a Mufumbira father and Muganda mother.

Mundeyi said the Ministry’s legal team and other agencies conducted a thorough investigation, leading to the arrest and detention of the trio at Jinja Road Police Station. He said these will face prosecution for their crimes.

“We implore Ugandans who may have been involved in this criminal activity to refrain from assisting foreigners in illegally obtaining Ugandan passports. We encourage anyone with information on such individuals to promptly report them to us so that appropriate action can be taken,” Mundeyi appealed.

Meanwhile, Mundeyi reassured the public that Uganda’s passport system is robust and secure, with biometric features and other safeguards to prevent fraudulent acquisition.
