Kampala – Police are urging the public to exercise caution when handling large sums of money.

This follows a recent incident where a 50-year-old businessman, Appolonali Ssemanda Zavuga, was robbed of 150 million shillings in Kaswa village, Kyotera district. Zavuga had withdrawn the money from a bank to pay his workers at Zavuga Coffee Factory, but was attacked and robbed before reaching his destination.

“It’s always advisable to devise means of handling bulk money safely. Workers can be paid through electronic systems, and there are many arrangements that can facilitate payments without necessarily coming into contact with large sums of cash,” said police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma while addressing journalists at police headquarters in Kampala on Monday.

He also encouraged individuals to reach out to the police for escort services when transporting valuable assets, especially if they are at risk of danger.

Kituuma further advised that private security companies can provide valuable assistance in transporting valuable assets, and encouraged the public to utilize these services.

He noted that transporting bulk money can be a risky endeavor, and it’s essential to tap into available safe mechanisms for transactions.
