Kampala – The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu has emphasized the importance of following God’s directions in life.

During a confirmation service at All Saints Cathedral Kampala (ASCK) on Friday, the Archbishop encouraged the confirmants to rely on the Bible as their guide, stating that it “not only informs you but transforms you.”

While giving his sermon, Kazimba shared his personal testimony of how the word of God transformed his life, despite coming from a poor background with a polygamist father.

“Until I was touched by the word of God from John 1:12, I had lost hope and hated my father, but then I became a new creature, I became a child of God,” Kazimba shared, citing his personal testimony of transformation.

Kazimba warned that secularism is “eating the world” and leading to immorality. He urged the confirmants to have Christ in them if they are to emerge as successful persons.

“Education without Christ is nothing, money without Christ is nothing. It is Christ who gives meaning and purpose to our lives.” He emphasized

Over 40 students from International Schools and 10 older individuals were confirmed in the Anglican faith during the service. The Archbishop who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala presided over the ceremony.

The Cathedral holds two confirmation classes annually targeting students in holidays. And, due to disparity in the Ugandan syllabus and the International Schools, the international school students study in July and are confirmed in August, while those doing Ugandan syllabus, start in December and are confirmed in January.

Confirmation is a special church service where individuals affirm their baptismal promises and commit to following Jesus Christ. The bishop lays hands on their head, asking God’s Holy Spirit to give them strength and commitment to live according to God’s way.
