Kampala – Kiruddu National Referral Hospital has earned the esteemed SANAS (South African National Accreditation System) status, recognizing its adherence to global standards in Conformity Assessment, Calibration, and Good Laboratory Practice.

As a government-run hospital under the Ministry of Health, Kiruddu serves as a vital referral center for patients across Uganda and a teaching hospital for Makerere University’s College of Health Sciences.

With a 200-bed capacity and 14 outpatient clinics, the hospital cares for approximately 300-500 patients daily.

Dr. Charles Kabugo, Hospital Director, highlights Kiruddu’s specialized facilities, including the country’s largest infectious disease ward and the only dedicated burn treatment ward.

To further enhance services, the government has increased bed supply, upgrading the intensive care unit from three to nine beds, notes Hajj Ereazer Mugisha, Principal Hospital Administrator.

Additionally, an independent water purification facility has been installed to ensure safe water for dialysis patients, with each machine consuming 250 liters per treatment session.
