A 28-year-old man, Tony Ssemanda, has been arrested for allegedly robbing and sexually assaulting his 34-year-old neighbor in Kawempe Division, Kampala.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan police deputy spokesperson, Ssemanda and two accomplices broke into the victim’s home on August 17, 2024. They stole cash worth UGX 200,000, two mobile phones, and a 32-inch television.
The victim’s child interrupted the attack, enabling her to identify Ssemanda, who fled the area after the crime. “During the incident, the victim’s child woke up and turned on the lights, allowing the victim to identify one of the attackers, Ssemanda Tony, who was a neighbor,” Owoyesigyire said.
Ssemanda, previously imprisoned for a similar offense, was released in June 2024. He was apprehended on September 30, 2024, after a tip-off. A search of his premises yielded a breaking implement and a knife.
The police are still searching for Ssemanda’s accomplices. Owoyesigyire urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as they work to bring all those involved to justice.
