A total of 21 regional centers across the country have commenced training for 10,594 Registration Assistants in preparation for the upcoming mass enrollment and renewal exercise for National ID cards.

The trainees have been divided into groups, with each group undergoing a four-day training session. This phased approach will enable successive groups to receive training.

Last year, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) advertised vacancies for Registration Assistants, attracting hundreds of thousands of applicants.

During the training, Ms. Rosemary Kisembo, Executive Director of NIRA, emphasized the importance of empathy in serving the public. “I urge you to put yourselves in the shoes of the people you serve, many of whom face various challenges. Treat them with the same kindness and respect you would want to receive.”

Following the training, Registration Assistants will be deployed to every parish across the country to register citizens for National Identification Numbers (NINs), issue national ID cards, and facilitate the renewal of expired IDs.
