Kole North Member of Parliament, Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, has marked four years of remarkable achievements in office, leaving an indelible mark on the constituency. As a distinguished pharmacist, pharmacologist, and dedicated public servant, Dr. Acuti has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the people of Kole North.
Dr. Acuti has held various positions of authority, including Vice Chairperson, Health Committee, Parliament of Uganda, Secretary General, Lango Parliamentary group, and Representative of Uganda parliament in the ACP-EU parliament.
Dr. Acuti’s contributions to healthcare are noteworthy. He donated 3 ambulances for Kole North constituency, facilitated 608 ambulance trips, including maternal emergencies, lobbied for the upgrade of Ayara HCII to HCIII at a cost of 1 billion Ugx, lobbied for the construction of a new Health Centre III in Okwerodot sub-county at a cost of 1 billion Ugx, lobbied for a type B ambulance from the Ministry of Health for Kole North at a cost of 500m Ugx, lobbied for assorted equipment for health facilities, including operating tables, patient beds, and delivery beds, and conducted 45 mental health medical camps, reaching out to over 3,000 people.
Dr. Acuti championed the construction of key roads, including Lira-Kole Kamdini Road and Rwenkunye-Apac-Lira-Puranga Road. He also tarmacked Corner Ayer-Corner Aboke-Iceme-Bobi Road, successfully advocated for 1 billion Ugx per district for road maintenance, donated 251 culverts, graded 20km of road using personal resources, lobbied for grading of 20km of roads in Kole North by the Ministry of Agriculture, lobbied for 44 metallic Armco culverts of 2,000 mm and 2,500mm from the Ministry of Works, and worked on 53 swamps.
Dr. Acuti constructed twin staff houses for Alito Primary School at a cost of 120m Ugx, distributed pre-mock examinations to all 31 government-aided primary schools, secured 400 iron sheets for Apedi Primary School, Wigwa Primary School, Alito Primary School, St. Matia Primary School, and Aboke High School from the Office of the Prime Minister, supported several schools in renovation and construction projects, including Opeta PS and Onyut Primary School, opened 9 skilling centers, training 803 youth, with over 500 receiving DIT certificates, and distributed several Taekwondo kits and uniforms.
Dr. Acuti jointly lobbied for 6 walking tractors and 1 large tractor as Kole district MPs, pioneered crop insurance in Kole North, with 440m Ugx paid to over 1,500 farmers and 52 groups, launched chilli growing and distributed seedlings to over 300 farmers, and distributed hybrid maize seeds to 108 farmer groups.
Dr. Acuti supported 135 Catholic, Protestant, and Pentecostal churches with funds and building materials for construction, lobbied for 600 iron sheets for several churches, conducted a mega fundraising, collecting up to 140m Ugx for Aboke Archdeaconry, and offered support to pilgrims to Namugongo for Martyrs’ Day commemoration.
Dr. Acuti supported the repair of 116 boreholes and construction of 5 spring wells, undertook data collection on water sources per village and sub-county in Kole North and shared the data with the District Water Office and Ministry of Works for intervention, advocated for rehabilitation of the dilapidated Ayara to Slang Barodwong piped water scheme, and advocated for piped water schemes for several trading centers.
Dr. Acuti secured 5 new network masts in Alito, Okwerodot, and Aboke, improved network coverage observed in 256 villages, facilitated mast payments, supporting the community and landowners in earning up to 25m Ugx annually from rent payments, and improved network coverage has facilitated communication, trade, security, health, and handling emergencies.
Dr. Acuti lobbied for electricity extension to Alito and Okwerodot sub-county, 45 villages newly connected to electricity, new businesses including metal fabrication opened up in Kole North, second phase electricity survey done in 139 villages and 13 parishes, and additional 12 parishes and wards expected to benefit from phase 2 electricity.
Dr. Acuti organized two football tournaments with 135 participating teams, gave out cash prizes and awards worth 35m Ugx, distributed 37 sets of uniforms across all parishes alongside more than 50 balls, and distributed several Taekwondo kits and uniforms.
Dr. Acuti secured 2nd round disbursement of 160m Ugx for 16 Emyooga Saccos, lobbied for payments for livestock compensation, with over 1,000 claimants in Kole district having their payments completed with a total budget release of 155 billion Ugx, and enabled several pensioners to receive their pensions, with some that had delayed for over 23 years.
Dr. Acuti made over 100 submissions on the floor of parliament, addressing critical issues including roads, health, livelihoods, justice, and trade. He conducted constituency oversight visits, making recommendations that were implemented.
Dr. Acuti made 108 community engagements, with up to 80% of issues raised on boreholes, roads, churches, sports, and more addressed.
Dr. Acuti supported 489 bereaved families and made several follow-ups on benefits for widows and persons who lost their loved ones.
