63 people have been confirmed dead and several others injured in a fatal road crash along the Kampala-Gulu Highway at Kitaleba Village, near Asili Farm.

According to Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, the accident occurred at around 12:15 am on October 22, 2025, involving four vehicles: two Isuzu buses (UBF 614X and UAM 045V), a Toyota Surf (CGO 5132AB 07), and a Tata Lorry (UBK 647C).

Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the bus drivers attempted to overtake the Tata Lorry, while another vehicle was overtaking from the opposite direction, resulting in a head-on collision. The impact caused a chain reaction, leading to multiple vehicles losing control and overturning.

The police responded promptly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals and conveying the bodies of the deceased to Kiryandongo Hospital mortuary for post-mortem and identification.

“We strongly urge all motorists to exercise maximum caution on the roads, especially avoiding dangerous and careless overtaking, which remains one of the leading causes of crashes in the country,” Kananura said.
