Kampala – The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) and the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA) hosted the 2025 Annual Bankers’ Sports Gala at Kyambogo University yesterday, with 29 banking institutions vying for top honors.
The event kicked off with a 30-day fitness challenge, which saw over 1,800 participants from various banks competing to earn medals and points for their institutions. Out of the total participants, 734 successfully completed the challenge.
This was followed by the CEO Golf Challenge, where Bank of Uganda emerged as the winner with 138 points, followed closely by Equity Bank with 134 points, and NCBA Bank with 120 points.
Patience Musiime of Namulonge Golf Club from Bank of Uganda won the Lady’s category with 34 points, while Samuel Bulenzi of Uganda Golf Club from Stanbic Bank won the Men’s category with 42 points.
The virtual and physical quiz was won by DFCU Bank, with Finance Trust Bank and Bank of Uganda taking the second and third positions.
DFCU Bank also emerged as the winner of the swimming challenge, followed by ECO Bank and Bank of Uganda.
The indoor games saw the following winners:
– Table Tennis: Finance Trust Bank (1st), Bank of Baroda (2nd), and Centenary Bank (3rd)
– Badminton: Bank of Uganda (1st), Centenary Bank (2nd), and Bank of Baroda (3rd)
– Darts: Bank of Uganda (1st), Housing Finance Bank (2nd), and Bank of Africa (3rd)
– Pool Table: Diamond Trust Bank (1st), ABSA Bank (2nd), and Housing Finance Bank (3rd)
– Chess: Bank of Uganda (1st), ABSA Bank (2nd), and KCB (3rd)
– Netball: Diamond Trust Bank (1st), Pride Bank (2nd), and Centenary Bank (3rd)
– Volleyball: Diamond Trust Bank (1st), Equity Bank (2nd), and NCBA (3rd)
The outdoor games saw the following winners:
– Basketball: I&M Bank (1st), Centenary Bank (2nd), and Stanbic Bank (3rd)
– Tug of War: Centenary Bank (1st), Equity Bank (2nd), and FINCA Bank (3rd)
– Football: Housing Finance Bank (1st), Diamond Trust Bank (2nd), and Post Bank (3rd)
In the end, Diamond Trust Bank emerged as the overall winners of the 2025 Annual Bankers’ Sports Gala with 855 points, followed closely by Bank of Uganda with 795 points, and Equity Bank with 705 points.
According to Professor Nuwagaba Augustus, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, the sports gala is an important event that promotes teamwork and physical fitness among banking professionals.
“Such games remind us that it is essential to look after ourselves as we serve the country in the banking sector,” he said.
Goretti Masadde, CEO of UIBFS, thanked the participants and organizers for making the event a success. “Let us continue to practice intentional physical fitness as suggested by the theme: Beyond the Finish Line,” she encouraged.
The event was attended by banking professionals from 29 institutions, including Bank of Uganda, ABC Capital Bank, ABSA Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank.
