The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) is set to hold its annual symposium on July 3 in Kampala to discuss the role of strategic communications in institutional sustainability.

The symposium to be held under the theme, “Beyond Headlines: Strategic Communications for Effective Institutional Sustainability,” will focus on how effective communication can support institutional growth and long-term success.

Speaking during a media briefing, PRAU President Irene Nakasiita said the event will bring together public relations practitioners, communicators, marketers, human resource professionals, government officials, representatives of non-governmental organisations and students to discuss emerging trends and challenges in the communications industry.

“We are looking at strategic communications and how it is shaping the communications industry, the different companies and organisations we work for, and how PR professionals are influencing narratives that support institutional growth,” Nakasiita said.

She said the symposium will feature speakers from various professional associations and sectors to enrich discussions on effective communication strategies across government, the private sector and civil society organisations.

Nakasiita noted that PRAU continues to work closely with sister professional bodies, including the Human Resource Managers Association of Uganda, the Uganda Advertisers Association and the Uganda Marketers Society, among others.

She encouraged communications professionals and members of the public to attend the symposium, describing it as a valuable opportunity for networking, learning and professional development.

“We have booked the biggest hall at Golf Course Hotel and we want to fill it. We invite the wider PR fraternity, government communicators, NGOs, students and all well-wishers to join us,” she said.

Nakasiita also highlighted PRAU’s commitment to mentoring young professionals, saying the symposium will provide university students and early-career practitioners with an opportunity to interact with experienced industry leaders and potential mentors.

Attendance at the symposium will cost Shs250,000 for PRAU members and Shs300,000 for non-members, while sponsors and partners will attend free of charge.
