Kampala – As the country transitions from the typically hot month of February, Commissioner of the Department of Meteorological Services, Dr. Bob Alex Ogwang, has shed light on the recent heatwave.
According to Dr. Ogwang, February is typically the hottest month in Uganda, and this year’s heatwave has been exacerbated by the delayed onset of rainfall in southwestern, western, and central regions. This delay is attributed to two tropical cyclones in the Southwestern Indian Ocean, which have been siphoning moisture intended for East Africa.
Dr. Ogwang emphasized that this situation is temporary and will soon come to an end. He also highlighted other contributing factors, including the position of the sun, cloud cover, and the urban heat island effect.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ogwang’s urged Ugandans to take action to protect the environment, citing the devastating impacts of climate change.
“We need to act, and act now. Climate change is real, and we are already experiencing its devastating impacts,” Dr. Ogwang stressed
