Madi Okollo– The newly sworn-in Members of Parliament for Madi Okollo District, Hon. Joana Okia and Hon. Ismail Ogama Ali, have pledged to prioritize improving the livelihoods of their constituents as they begin their term in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, the two legislators said their focus would be on addressing key challenges affecting residents, including agriculture, access to clean water, healthcare, and youth unemployment.
Hon. Joana Okia, woman MP for Madi Okollo, said her office would work closely with local leaders and development partners to create economic opportunities for women and youth.
“My commitment is to ensure that the people of Madi Okollo see tangible change. We will push for programs that support farmers, improve market access, and empower women with skills and capital to grow small businesses,” Okia said.
Her counterpart, Hon. Ismail Ogama Ali, MP for Madi Okollo County, emphasized the need to strengthen service delivery and infrastructure in the district. He noted that many communities still struggle with poor roads, limited access to clean water, and inadequate health services.

“We are going to Parliament to be the voice of the people of Madi Okollo. My priority is to lobby for better infrastructure, functional health centers, and schools that meet the needs of our children. Development must reach every household,” Ogama Ali stated.
Both MPs called for unity among residents regardless of political affiliation, saying collective effort would be critical to achieving progress in the district.
Madi Okollo, created as a district in 2020, has faced challenges typical of newly established districts, including gaps in service delivery and limited economic activity. Residents who attended the swearing-in expressed hope that the new representatives would deliver on their promises.
The 12th Parliament of Uganda was inaugurated in May 2021 following the January general elections. MPs serve a five-year term and are tasked with legislation, oversight, and representation.
