Coca-Cola has launched a content creation challenge giving Ugandan football fans a chance to earn up to one million shillings every month during the English Premier League (EPL) season.

Coca-Cola Senior Marketing Manager for Uganda, Barry Otieno, revealed the initiative last evening during a two-day EPL watch party organised by the company at Millennium Park Lugogo.

The event, the first of its kind in Uganda, brought together football fans for the opening match of the new Premier League season.

Arsenal defeated Coventry City 3-0 in the opening match on Friday night, with the watch party continuing Saturday as Manchester United take on Hull City.

Otieno says the two-day event combines football with entertainment, food and music, with various artists performing last evening and more expected to take the stage today.

“It’s not just about the football. It’s a lineup of great entertainment, great DJs, great food experience. So on top of the football, there’s the food, there’s the entertainment that comes with it,” Otieno said.

He says the content creation challenge is aimed at allowing fans to turn their passion for football and social media into an opportunity to earn money.

“We are inviting all the football fans to show us how they enjoy their game of football or how they enjoy their meals with a Coca-Cola,” he said.

Otieno says participants only need to purchase a Coca-Cola product, including Coke, Fanta or Sprite, scan the QR code on the pack and register for the challenge.

They will then be required to create and post content on their social media platforms and encourage their followers to interact with it.

“The more viewership you get, the more money you unlock. There’s up to one million Uganda shillings every month up for grabs,” Otieno said.

He says the initiative is open to Ugandan citizens aged 18 and above.

“As long as you’re 18 years of age and you’re Ugandan, you can take part in the content creation challenge,” he said.

Otieno says the campaign is part of Coca-Cola’s activities around its partnership with the English Premier League, which he says will see the company organise more activations and experiences for football fans throughout the season.

“This is just the start of many activations and events that we’ll be curating for our Ugandan fans,” Otieno said.

He adds that Coca-Cola is using football to connect with consumers because of the sport’s popularity in Uganda.

“We know for a fact that Ugandans love football. For that love of football, Coca-Cola has identified that as a passion point that we can tap into,” he said.

The two-day watch party at Millennium Park Lugogo continues today with the Manchester United-Hull City fixture, alongside entertainment and other activities for fans.
